Mr. Fred Meltzer "Doing what he loves"

I had the pleasure of becoming "Facebook friends" with Mr. Meltzer, I would say about a year and a half ago! I had just moved to Newberry, South Carolina and I wanted to meet new people in music and the arts so a friend of mine started suggesting people to me... of course none of the suggested people ever work out; however, the happenstances' work out just fine, Mr. Fred Meltzer  is a happy-happenstance.

I would keep up with him on Reverbnation and look up any new and interesting songs he might be playing, I listened to the songs, some reminded me of late 80's music complete with "Bowie'esque" phrasing, some can give you the feel of "Blues Travelers- meets-Bruce Springsteen." He can give you some fun and games music like his "I got a puppy and some Blues" and then he can give you something to think about like his song "Love Plane." All and all his music is a good listen.

Fred Started playing piano at he age of nine; then at 11, he started playing drums in his parents' basement. Fred had two years of lessons and became hooked. Meltzer started writing songs  on the piano in High School. His first original song " Plastic Money", a song about credit cards was written after a expensive family trip to Chicago... He played in garage bands in High School as well as playing with the "South Shore Conservatory Summer Jazz Band" brass and percussion ensemble under the expert tutelage of renowned instructor  Frank Batista as well as many other fine instructors.

While in college at Brandeis University, Fred started two bands: Guilt Without Sex and a seven piece band with horns and four singers called "No Don't Stop!" This band played many college function, and did sets on college radio as well, However, at this point as a college senior, he started playing and writing more on his guitar... He said "it was tough to take his drum set to the beach in front of the campfire and impress the girls", so he had to find something else to do! After graduation, he and his keyboardist moved to  New York City, to start an original Rock Band, they hired a bass player and guitarist and started doing showcases in Manhattan...this was short lived and fizzled out.

Meltzer and his new Wife moved to Atlanta to go to Graduate School at Emory. While at Emory, Fred joined a band with three litigation attorney's and himself called at various times: "Uncle Toot's"... and ... "King Lear Jet." why the multiple names, you say? They felt that if they changed the name of the band
(which was a Cracker/ Greenday type cover band) playing "Law School Formals" and "Law Firm intern gatherings" they could make music history as the only people who could confuse lawyers (LOL) I jest! But they did feel they could make a great name for themselves and have instant history to talk about.

Fred gigged on and off for 10 years and in 2008 he started gigging seriously, playing and Hosting Blues Jams, and weekday spots at Blues places around Atlanta, the groups he had the pleasure of doing this wonderful work with are: "The Rhythm Raiders", "The Alternators", "Burning Time", and his favorite "Fedora Blues Band" led by Gray Sartin ( if you YouTube Fedora Blues you can still see their page). All the while Fred has continued to write and play gig's as a solo artist, performing his original music, filling up Coffeehouses and Farmers markets' and selling a few self-produced CDs along the way. Fedora Blues Band, released and original Chicago Blues CD in 2011 and people are still asking how they can get a copy now.  Since 2011 Fred  has lived up in Massachusetts, he has booked very successful  solo gigs and he has been on WATD 95.9 FM Marshfield MA. He is currently playing drums on the South Shore of Boston  with a cover band "The Krazy Ivans"  and Fred has filled in several times with "The Dave Foley Band" these contacts are helping him seed his solo gig's, which may be only 6-8 times a year, but the activity from the other bands continue to peak his fans' interest.

You can hear some of Fred's original music at: http://music.fredmeltzer.com, and Love Plane Live From Fred Meltzer is available on CD Baby. Look for a recording of hid latest song, "Take Stock Tonight" to hit the Internet and local Massachusetts venues soon. Tell him what you like best! If you are looking for a Schedule http://musicfredmeltzer.com . Fred is very approachable and fun loving, so if your in Massachusetts, please go out and see Fred and have a great time!
