Kyle Jason "Soul School Is In Session"

As a little child, you hear music and voices; words and images pass in front of your vision, you sometimes get it, and you sometimes don't! Have you ever looked back at your drawings as a child, all clumsy and awkward, but by God- you were gonna be a Fireman! And in 15 years, you hear, welcome to " Wall street!"

Well, the person in this blog had it indelibly stamped on his Soul... that he would be a constant-self-aware-ever growing-entertainer!  And, Kyle Jason, is! So with out further a due'  "Soul School Is In Session."

Kyle Jason,  is a consummate- Singer/ Songwriter/ Performer/Actor/Radio Personality and did I mention...he is a Funkateer! "P Funk" embraced and welcomed Kyle as a Funkateer in 1996 when he opened for "P Funk The Return Of The Mothership Tour." George calls him nephew and Bootsy calls him Lil' Brugh. They embraced Kyle from the very start.  His story is not unlike other singer/ songwriter/ performers; Kyle would spend ample time listening to a wide variety of music that his mother played in the 70's. This list would be very eclectic, you could find: Marvin, Stevie, Sly, and Curtis to Hendrix, Havens, Cocker and Cream. Like any "budding young star"  their has to be a chrysalis story.  KJ's transformation story would takes form at a concert at the Apollo Theater, when he was only five. He saw James Brown perform, and in his words "That was the beginning for me, a clinic on-How it's done"!

From this day on, it-was-on... Kyle got a lead in school chorus, and while performing the he noticed the reaction the crowed gave him was magic. Again in his words " My soul recognized the feeling, it was part of my DNA."  Kyle had a few High School bands, which led to a lot of talent shows. This performing and perfecting his talent. This led him to his first record deal, several years latter, with Virgin Records. The album never came out, but it was a valuable lesson to him on how the business works; and he has been writing, producing, and performing ever since.  His new project "Something That Matters" is actually a departure from his usual band productions. Kyle, worked with various producers on this new project, (Supreme Beats) from Alabama, (Ty Macklin)  from Texas, (Johnny "Juice" Rosado) and (Dez "Electric" Dottin) from New York.  Kyle, decided to let this new album come about organically and not let his past hang ups of perfectionism bog down his process. " All of the producers on the album play instruments and have musicians they work with"  He is very happy with the wonderful magical mix of talent on this album, and is excited about the possibilities the future could hold for him.

When I asked Kyle, If you had the chance to work with another artist who would it be, and would you like to record a Duet Style album? His answer was; " The list is way too long. LOL. Just to name a few ...D'Angelo, Bilal, Van Hunt and James Morrison. I love Morrison's voice. That cat has feeling. On the Female side, it starts with Chaka Khan and India Arie. I also admire Jill Scott's work...plus she is fine as a muuuuuuuuuuf###@#$$a!!!!"   Okay Kyle..... Cheeky Monkey!

As our conversation continues, he gets kinda to the point and no "BS" about the music we hear today and the artists that are sometimes half baked...." It is as its' always been, if you move me you move me. People are very hard on "artists" ( I use this term loosely) today!" Kyle continues to talk about how he had been a little hard on them as well. We spoke about the era of wonderful and talented artists and musicians that we used to listen to and how they moved us, but then he also remembered the fact that we had some no-so-good talent as well. Kyle says, it's not that the people today are not talented its just that they are not seasoned "not ready for prime time" he feels that more time could be spent on toady's new entertainers  so that they create he whole package and present it with elegance, " It's not their fault its just the design of the system today!"

Kyle Jason, is what I would call a "Renaissance Man" because music is not the only thing he is great at. He had a  Radio  Show, The Kyle Jason Show on Air America (2004-2006),

He has a list of movies he has been in: Bloom(2000), Lost Money(2001), Snitch in New York(2002) Dirty Shield(2003), Godfathers and Sons(2003),American Gangster(2007), City Teacher(2007), The Quiet Arraignment(2009) Something That Matters(2011), and  Dark of Winter(2012).

His list of  musical accomplishments include: Generations - Chuck D and Bootsy Collins (1997), Confrontation Camp (Objects in the Mirrior Are Closer Than They Appear)- Chuck D & Professor Griff (2000), Public Enemies, There's a Poison going on (2004), Revolution Of The Cool; Featuring the documentary " Coming  From the Soul" (2005) and Something That Matters (2012).

This is only the sugar, under the cream. I am sure that Kyle Jason's new adventure's will venture him in to the realms of a "New International Soul Movement," that will keep you coming back for more! Stay tuned and get your "Fedora and Zoot-Suits" out; but don't forget about your plate of spiritual down home cooking... Kyle Jason, is gonna take us all back to "Soul School!"
