The Wonderful Man from Newmarket!
James Eugene Carrey ( Jim Carrey)
From the time I first saw Jim, I had this feeling his career would not only span time and leave behind many laughs and a lot of conflicting emotions about human agility, but that he would give so much of himself that we would see him in many a movie quotes for years to come!
Jim has won many awards in his time for Film, lets work with some of his wins, 1999 The Truman Show, a movie that honestly brings me to at times think this was the start of the flat world movement! The movie itself speaks on the life of Truman, as we watch we are reminded of just how online our lives are, and now its a reality,
Carrey won Best Actor- Motion Picture Drama.
Now, right after this Carrey received, best Actor in a Motion picture comedy, for Man on the Moon; Carrey’s portrayal of Andy Kaufman brings to mind his In Living Color colleague ( Jammie Fox) both gave the most heart warming and realistic performances of people we had not been able to see behind the curtains about, and Carrey gave us more power and purpose in that performance than most give credit for ( Outside of his nomination/win) I would say a worthy movie to rewatch.
Dumb and Dumber 1995/ wining for Best comedic Performance and Best kiss with Lauren Holly, I suppose the last part was a given:-) I am not even sure if it is worth saying anything we all know he literally made some of us think vacuous was actually sexy ( I mean, the bowl cut come on right ? LOL)
Ace Ventura 1996/ winning Best male performance and best comedic performance
And the cable guy 1997 best comedic performance and best Villain, both years you
Could see Carrey reaching for something outside of his usual performances, making a break into a Darker Side of Carrey!
Then we have Liar Liar, 1998- I wanted to speak on this because it showed him coming out of just being goofy into a more feeling and substance roll without the heavy, however maybe that’s just me. In truth one of my favorite performances. He won best comedic performance that year just before winning Truman in 1999.
2001 How the Grinch Stole Christmas, 2009 Yes Man, When we think of Carrey, we think of Comedy and off beat shenanigans that keep us wondering, (was he being real, how on earth can one mans face make that many wobbly moves without staying that way?)
Lacking the continued desire to be held to anything and understanding the picture is what we make it, Carrey has given his best “Jim Carrey,” to us, and now he has to be the Jim Carrey he desires to be for himself, which has flaws, and facets that have nothing to do with who is watching.
I am giving Jim Carrey a Bushel of Daisies and Sunflowers; growing up watching him made me laugh and sometimes wonder what it was like being an actor and comedian. So, the next time you want to just suspend the need to see anything other than the laughter in life, look up Carrey’s “across the web,” pick a movie and enjoy!
